My story in this year's collection is Galactic Search and Rescue. The “pets” are actually an unusual team of animals trained to help human rescuers in disaster situations. I wrote it in part because I've seen how animals can make a huge difference in people's lives. The main characters of Galactic Search and Rescue, Taz and Rylando, are great at rescuing others, but not so great at dealing with their feelings for each other. Especially when their latest rescue might be their last.
